At one year old, a baby will have a foot half the size of his adult size.

At CarolinaEast Pediatrics, we believe in the importance of regular checkups to keep your child healthy. These appointments provide preventative vaccinations, exams to catch any early health issues, and the opportunity to address any questions or concerns about your child’s development. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines for well-child visits, which you can view below.

Please schedule well-child appointments as early as possible to ensure availability of the date and time requested.

Recommended Visits

The following schedule for examinations should be adhered to as closely as possible:

  • Newborn: 3 to 5 days
  •  2 weeks
  •  2 months
  •  4 months
  •  6 months
  •  9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
  •  3 years
  •  4 years

We recommend a yearly exam every year after age 4 as some schools and extracurricular activities require an up-to-date physical/well visit.

Starting at age 18, our providers will begin discussing with your child the need to transition to an adult medicine provider. Based off the conversation, and the needs of your child, our providers might recommend that they immediate transfer to an adult medicine provider or inform them that they can continue to be seen up to age 20 (or 21 depending on circumstances).

It is our goal to make this transition to an adult medicine provider as seamless as possible. Our clinic will provide your child with information for local adult medicine practices and inform your child of the process to have records their transferred.
