Colin Evans, MD, is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Robert E. Cook Honors College, where he received a B.S. in Biochemistry, and Drexel University College of Medicine, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed a Psychiatric Residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Evans' was Chief Fellow during his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Evans memberships include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the North Carolina Medical Society.
He is married with four children, and in his spare time Dr. Evans enjoys watching sports, fishing, reading, and gardening.
Kristi D. Gordin, MD, is a graduate of Berry College, where she received a B.S. in Biomolecular Science, and Morehouse School of Medicine, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed a Pediatric Residency at Duke University Medical Center in 2003. Dr. Gordin is board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society. She also graduated with honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
In her spare time, Dr. Gordin enjoys travelling, fitness, and gardening.
Katherine Kaufman, MD, is originally from Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She completed her internal medicine-pediatrics residency at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and her adult and pediatric rheumatology fellowships at Duke University. She is board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, rheumatology and pediatric rheumatology. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Kaufman cares for pediatric patients with juvenile arthritis, juvenile lupus and related diseases, juvenile dermatomyositis, and fever syndromes. In her free time, she enjoys boating and fishing with her husband and their two sons, paddle boarding, and spinning.
Jennie Mangun, MD, is a graduate of Purdue University, where she received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, where she received her M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics. She received her Medical Degree. from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, where she also completed a Pediatric Residency in 1996. Dr. Mangun is board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and the North Carolina Medical Society. She is President of the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society, and has been on the board of directors for The Epiphany School of Global Studies in New Bern since 2010. Dr. Mangun is married with two children. In her spare time, she enjoys home decorating, baking cakes, and gardening.
Rebecca Riley, MD, is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where she received a B.S. in both Chemistry and Biology, and the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed a Pediatric Residency at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina in 2005. Dr. Riley is a board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society.
Dr. Riley is married with two children. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, camping, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Jennifer L. Smith earned her medical degree in 2016 from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2011. Dr. Smith recently completed her residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Pediatrics in Charlotte, NC, and is board certified in Pediatrics. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
Marcus C. Whaley, MD, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he received a B.A., and East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine, where he earned his Medical Degree. He completed a Pediatric Residency at the University Health Systems of Eastern North Carolina in 2003, as well as a Sports Medicine Fellowship at East Carolina University and University Health Systems of Eastern North Carolina in 2004.
Dr. Whaley is board certified in Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, he is a member of the North Carolina Pediatric Society, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society. Dr. Whaley also graduated with honors, in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a professional organization that recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine.
Jessica graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky, where she received both her Bachelors of Science in Biology with a dual focus in Dietetics, as well as her Masters Degree with honors in Physician Assistant Studies. She completed a Physician Assistant residency program at the University of Kentucky Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 2012. Jessica is a North Carolina Board Certified Physician Assistant and member of the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is married with two young boys. Jessica enjoys hiking, trips to the beach, and spending time with her family.
Dr Sullivan is originally from Massachusetts. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester where he received a B.S. in Cellular and Developmental Biology. He obtained his Medical Degree at the nation’s only military medical school- the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his Pediatric Residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia. Dr Sullivan has deployed with Navy and Marine Corps forces in support of conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and participated in several humanitarian aid missions. Dr. Sullivan is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, is a fellow with the American Association of Pediatrics, and is a member of the North Carolina Pediatric Society.
In his spare time, Dr Sullivan enjoys mountain biking, yoga, baking bread, and spending time with his two children.
Dr. Nicole Check, MD, attended Campbell University,in Buies Creek, NC, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine, Greenville, NC, where she earned her M.D. in 2012. She completed a three year residency at the University of Florida at Arnold Palmer Medical Center in Orlando.
Dr. Check is board certified in Pediatrics, and is a member of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Program Evaluation Committee.
