How to Keep Your Family Active This Winter

With cold temperatures and early evening sunsets, it is tempting to stay inside and relax under a blanket. While it’s nice to unwind, after a while your little ones may start to get stir crazy. See the following tips about how to keep your family active this winter.

Get off the couch and dance it out. During each commercial break, get up with your kids and move around. Make up a dance or do some jumping jacks; make it fun! Start a competition to see who can do more push-ups during the break. Friendly competition can be fun, and your kids will love the excitement.

Too cold to go to the playground? Transform your living room into a fort, or try making a make-shift obstacle course. With help from your little ones, use furniture, blankets and pillows to construct a fort. Take it a step further and dress in costumes to get your kids’ imaginations going. If parents are willing to participate, kids will be more inclined to join the fun. You can try an obstacle course with stations to occupy your children. Spend anywhere from 15 minutes to all afternoon conquering the obstacle course. Use this as an opportunity to build a story. You can begin the tale, and have your kids chime in with their parts.

If the temperature is reasonable, take a walk or hike outside. Make certain to bundle up your little ones, especially their heads and feet. One can burn 90 to 200 calories in a 30-minute walk. Have your kids ride their bikes, skateboards or rollerblade to burn off some energy. It can be difficult keeping your kids active during colder months. Embrace the challenge and your inner-creativity to keep your kids moving during these colder months of winter.
